Ewy Rosqvist's career in rallying took off in earnest in 1957, when she began driving for Saab, initially with the model 93. This marked the start of a successful period in her career, where she quickly established herself as a prominent driver.
With Volvo, Ewy Rosqvist became a three-time European Women's Champion in 1959–1961 and in 1962 shared the title with Pat Moss.
Mercedes had already tried to hire Ewy as a factory driver in 1961, but so in 1962 Ewy signed a contract and quit her job as a veterinary assistant and became a full-time racing driver.
